Google Maps to moderate community edits to business listings
Google has announced that they have decided to start moderating all the edits made by web users to the business listings on Google Maps.
Free editing had become a major problem on the service as it enabled rogue web users to put in incorrect information.
In fact, businesses were messing around with data about their rivals on Google Maps creating an unwanted situation.
Google would now moderate all the edits for authenticity before the updated content appears on Google Maps.
Google said: “We want to empower you to be a valuable local expert by making it easy to fix and report problems you find on Google Maps. We realize it is inconvenient to wait for edits to be reviewed, and we are working hard to streamline our review process to reduce this waiting period.”
