ISRO says CARTOSAT-1 is working well

In news, which would bring much relief to the scientists working in the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), it was notified that CARTOSAT-1 satellite is in a good shape and all its systems are working well. The satellite was launched in orbit by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C6) recently and the mission was notified as a success by the space organization.

The two solar panels, one on either side of the satellite were deployed automatically as soon as the satellite went into orbit. These panels are the source of power to the satellite and are functioning properly. The satellite is equipped with two state-of-the art cameras on board which would soon be switched on during the course of Saturday. ISRO would be using them to get three-dimensional imageries of the earth in black and white in a stream of data.

CARTOSAT-1 is a remote-sensing satellite developed by the Indian Space Organization and would be used in making accurate maps, planning city and rural development. The data would be used for laying new roads that avoid inhabited areas, assessing damages from disasters such as cyclones, tsunamis and earthquakes and other purposes.

The cameras onboard have a resolution of 2.5 meters capable of taking pictures of any object on the earth, which is as big 2.5 meters. The two cameras aboard can be used to take photos of a single object letting the scientists take a three dimensional image of the targeted object. ISRO claims that the satellite is capable enough to map the entire country within a period of two months.
