Intel collaborates with Sprint to work on WiMax
Tech Giant Intel would be working along with Sprint to develop and launch products based on technologies for the mobile version of WiMax. Both the companies are quite optimist about this new genre of wireless technology and expect to make it big with huge profits and returns. The collaboration justifies the efforts Intel has been making to popularize the WiMax standards.
WiMax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and it is expected to power the next generation of broadband devices to work wirelessly over a large area. Intel on their part released the first WiMax enabled processor last month and expects to be a major player in the market when it comes to powering WiMax enabled devices.
Intel is also collaborating with companies like AT&T to provide WiMax services to its subscribe by the end of the year. They consider mobile version of WiMax to be more beneficial to the end customer when compared to the landline version of this wireless technology. Intel has made big in the Wi-Fi field and WiMax is just another extension of their commitment to the wireless technology scenario.
Intel sells their Centrino Chip, which is Wi-Fi enabled and form bulk of the notebooks sales out there. Mobile WiMax is expected to reach the retail market sometime in 2007.
