Microsoft to offer Virus Protection Soon
World’s Largest Software Company Microsoft announced on Friday that they would soon enter the Anti-Virus Solutions market and proved that the rumors were true. It would be selling the basic protection against viruses and Spyware as a subscription service. They call the service Windows OneCare and it is currently under tests by the company’s employees.
The aim is to help the end consumer stay on top of a computer’s overall health by providing automatic updates of antivirus software. It also promises to take automated system maintenance tasks, which the end user often ignores or simply forgets. This would include taking backup of critical data and running system utilities like disk de-fragmentation etc.
The company has however not released their pricing structure for this upcoming service. However, this puts them in direct competition with their past and current partners in the industry Symantec and McAfee and many more. Both of these companies have come to be known as the makers of the best computer security applications and would be worried about the giant’s entry into their field.
However, it is not a surprise announcement as Microsoft has acquired companies in the past which somewhat pointed to this announcement. They have taken over antivirus and Anti-Spyware companies and recently also released their own Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta application. The competition is confident that they would manage to survive in the industry even with Microsoft around.
The end user however is angry at the thought of paying the company for fixing the products they released in the market with the issues pre-existing in them. Ironically, Microsoft with this step would be charging customers helping them remove issues from the Windows Operating System, which they develop and sell themselves.
