Single Sign-on for Java and .NET web services
It is the combination of the unlikeliest of tech companies. Microsoft and Sun are trying hard to work together and launch software, which can co-exist with each other. And they have begun by announcing specifications, which allows for single sign-in between Java and .NET web services. They have however admitted that there were quite many problems due to the companies’ landmark legal and technology agreement.
In fact, they hosted a joint press conference to update the media on what was under development and what they were ready to release. They even targeted the common competitor IBM in the process by advising the customers to look towards the future and discard mainframe computers. Scott McNealy said: “The backbone of IT is moving off the mainframe. We will disagree about where [the consumer] should go, but we will agree they should go.â€
Interestingly, he targeted IBM like he used to target Microsoft by repeating his famous words: “It’s mankind against IBM Global Services.” Steve Ballmer on his part talked about interoperability between .NET and Java. They also admitted that the development of common solutions has been slower than predicted but they were hopeful of gaining speed as the time passes by.
