Toyota recalling more than 750,000 vehicles
Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling more than 750,000 pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. This is one of the largest safety recalls ever in the history of the Automobile industry. The reason behind this recall is said to be problems with the front suspension that could hinder steering.
The vehicles being recalled by the company includes 774,856 vehicles in the United States. The models being 2001-2004 versions of Tacoma, 2001-2002 versions of the 4Runner and the 2002-2004 versions of Tundra and Sequoia.
Toyota have said that the reason behind the problem is the surface of a ball joint, which connects to the front suspension. They fear that the surface might have got scratched while manufacturing leading to possible wear and tear over time. This could further lead to drivers requiring to exert more effort when steering. In the end, vehicle would drift even more leading to more noise from the suspensions.
They have already seen six cases of such conditions though the company claims no one has been harmed or injured in the process. Other places where the vehicles might be recalled are Canada, Japan, Australia, and other countries. The number of vehicles however is not clear yet.
