Hybrid version of Toyota Camry being planned

Toyota has done it again. They are doing what few other companies are daring to consider. They have announced plans to add another gas/electric model to its stable with a hybrid Camry being planned for launch sometime next year. Currently, Ford offer 1 hybrid car on sale while GM has none in their stables. Toyota leads the way with five models in their lineup with sales touching an impressive 300,000 units globally.

GM is the major giant with no upcoming plans for a commercial hybrid version. The best the media knows is a limited hybrid capability Chevrolet Malibu that shuts the engine off at stoplights to save fuel. In comparison, companies like the Toyota itself, Nissan, and Ford would have a wide range of vehicles on road in the coming years. Analysts consider this to be a major weak point for the automobile giant GM.

Camry would be the first gas/electric Toyota to be built in the USA. It would be assembled in Georgetown in Kentucky. It would accompany the already being produced gasoline-powered Camry and Avalon sedans and Solara coupe at the Toyota plant. The gasoline version of Camry happens to be the best-selling passenger car in the U.S. It sold an impressive 426,990 units last year and Toyota would be planning to make a killing out of selling the hybrid version along with it.

The company does not seem to be satisfied with this alone. A spokesperson told the media that the company has more elaborate plans for the future.
