Bajaj Auto considering a massive expansion

India’s second largest motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto is considering making a massive investment of Rs. 200 crores. This is to expand its capacities during the next 1.5 years. The company is based in Pune and is second to Hero Honda in the number game in India.

They are primary known for their scooter division though with popular models in the form of Bajaj Pulsar, Bajaj has made a big dent in the Hero Honda’s sales figure in the performance bike segment. In fact, the company is considering buying a stake in the Philippines division of motorcycle maker Kawasaki Motors.

A statement from the company said: “Both firms are evaluating options. We may pick up a stake if it is in our mutual interest.” The Philippines based division has been importing the Bajaj bikes and selling them in the country for quite sometime now. However, more details are not yet out.

The increased production would also help them expand for the upcoming three scooter models from the company. Bajaj is set to launch the first model in this year itself. The MD of the company Rajiv Bajaj said in a statement: “The scooter industry has slowed down and it is a challenge now to make scooters that make money, but we believe we can redefine the scooter market.”

The company is quite profitable and expansion is the way they are looking forward to take.
