U.S. Copyright Office has new updated DMCA rules

TechCrunch has reported that U.S. Copyright Office has come out with some awesome news for the users in the US market.

They have made some changes to the DMCA rules. Most of these are positive in nature when it comes to consumers

Here are some of the highlights…

It is now legal to break the DRM on DVDs for fair use.

It is now legal to jailbreak a mobile phone to run legal apps.

It is now legal to jailbreak a mobile phone to run it on a different network.

It is now legal to break the DRM of a videogame for fair use.

It is now legal to break hardware based DRM if the hardware lock is no longer available in market.

And so on!

One of the biggest implications? Apple iPhone jailbreak is legal now. Running third party apps on it is legal now. Apple really lost out in this updated DMCA edition!
