Orange TV for mobiles in the Britain
Orange Mobile Services in Britain have launched what they call Orange TV for their customers. They are planning to launch nine television channels in Britain next week. These would provide content for news, sports, and entertainment programs on their customer’s mobile phones. However, the service requires access to the Orange’s high-speed third-generation (3G) network coverage area.
The programs would also contain content from ITN and CNN television, cartoons and extreme sports programs. Nokia 6680 is the only handset currently being supported with more phones to follow. The interested users can apply to get access to this service using an application that would be made available for free. Then the company would be charging £10 per month for the service, which includes 20 hours of viewing time.
The company already is offering similar service with an impressive 23 channels in France. Rivals in Britain consider this to be a futile effort as they say that the video-streaming over 3G networks is only ideal for on-demand, niche TV services. Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld standard is another technology, which is being considered for these kinds of services.
