U.S. Federal Trade Commission now targeting zombie computers

One of the prime targets for the worm makers nowadays is to get malicious code installed on vulnerable systems to get them under control. This way they manage to convert thousands of workstations around the world as zombie computers which can be used to do anything and that includes sending out spam mails and increasing the traffic on the network clogging the Internet.

However, the latest news in is that the United States Federal Trade Commission is now targeting these machines to get off the Internet to retain sanity on the net. They want the ISPs to disconnect systems infected by these worms from their networks until the time the users fix their computers. For this, they have conveyed their message to around 3000 ISPs around the world!

Most home users find themselves helpless in taking care of their systems. For this, the FCC is hoping that the ISP would help their customers into protecting their machines from such worms. They want the ISPs to monitor the usage on their networks to pinpoint similar zombie machines on their network doing little but becoming a nuisance for the rest of the computers on the network.

They have also suggested the ISPs to get the users to send mails through their own mail servers so that they can install the required applications on the gateways itself to check for suspicious activities. This would however not be liked by many users on their networks.
