PalmOne Becomes Palm Inc.

PDA manufacturer PalmOne with the acquisition of the right to the name Palm has decided to rename their company name back to Palm Incorporation. They have also shown their commitment to the PalmOS as they renewed their contract with PalmSource to continue using the Operating System for their handheld computers.

The deal to use this handheld computing OS would continue till the year 2009. and the company would be unveiling a new logo of their new brand identity sometime later this year. All the devices coming in the future would feature this Palm brand and would sport the same Palm Logo.

The reason for this deal is the identity of the word Palm with the handheld computers. Ed Colligan, palmOne’s president and CEO said in a statement: “The letters P-A-L-M reflect a prized brand with significant customer awareness and earned loyalty”.

However, the latest deals have a condition according to which the company would have to meet certain development milestones. Both the companies have however not revealed what these milestones are. The company is also looking forward to Linux based solutions to power their PDAs.
