Samsung starts production of 4 GB NAND Flash Drive

Just a couple of days back, tech giant Samsung reported that they developed the technology to use Flash Memory as normal storage drives in computers. Now, the latest news in is that the company has in fact started manufacturing 4 GB NAND flash memory using 70-nanometer technology. In addition, the production of the 300 mm wafers also started at the company’s plants.

This drive showcases density, which is the highest in the market and uses single level cells measuring 0.025 square micrometers. This is record for the storage industry. The 300 mm wafer production would be used exclusively for the flash memory.

The company first developed a 2 GB flash memory with technology now enhanced to develop 4 GB flash memory drives. The product would come with capabilities of writing data at 16-Mbytes per second which itself is a 50% enhancement over earlier prototypes.

The high writing speed would make the drive suitable for even the most demanding of jobs like storing real time data storage of high-definition video images.
