Skoda planning Yeti Roomster concept car for India

Skoda has serious plans for the Indian market. Apparently, they are themselves surprised by the response the Indian consumer gave to the excellent Octavia. Skoda Superb is already out and we are seriously waiting for the fabulous Fabia to arrive on the Indian shores. However, rumors are in that the company is also planning to bring in production version of their concept car Roomster based on Yeti concept vehicle they showcased in the Geneva Motor Show.

The vehicle would be a multi purpose vehicle (MPV) and would be probably aimed at the Hyundai Tucson and Honda CR-V. It is expected to be launched internationally sometime next year and the Indian market should see it here in 2007. The concept vehicle came with a single door entry on the passenger’s side though the production model should be a regular 5-door arrangement for comfortable entry.

The critics call this car the answer for all active people looking for a car that can take them exactly where they want to be. It would serve multiple purposes along with being a useful city car with its high seats, good view, and compact dimensions. And the car would suit the Indian roads perfectly looking at the rugged structure and ground clearance. Skoda already has made an impression on the Indian customer and if they can price it right, it just might become another best seller for the Czech Auto Maker.

    What a beauty
Can any one provide a comparison of power and dimension comparison of yeti and Maruti Gypsy?

If they price it right this will definitely sell like hot cake. I have seen the interiors of Yeti in a newspaper; it has a spacecraft kind of interior, very intuitiveâ?¦ not the soft rounded curves that you see in cars now a day. It could be a trendsetter but there is problem with such sharp edges and square figures. If the quality of the fiber is not very high they will look very out dated and ugly within a short period (memorize speedometer cover/console of old Omni). This is an area that Skoda has to keep in mind especially considering the localization of components.

Rrrr.. Hate to ask â?¦.. but â?¦. Does all the foreign manufacturers degrade quality of components to reduce cost for Indian market

mmm in that case skoda really will have to redesign the interior of yeti for indian market. check out this photos. http://www.skoda-auto.com/cze/model/concepts/yeti

that roof and instrument cluster and all will look terrible in 4 or 6 months… with all the dust/climet conditions in India… and rough use

well it will be interesting to see how a car with loks of a suv and space for a c segment turn out to be in the indian market.important part is that the side view of the car has been given its due importance ,which is neglected by most of the manufacturers.looks are bossy and imposing .best of luck skoda.

well i think its quite radical in design. might not just not work for indian market. looks quite tough though. the pricing will be a major factor here and so will be the power output. but the car to lookout for is the skoda laura which is a fantastic automobile. the diesel variant is already out but it would be great if they come out with the RS version of laura with the DSG shift. it would be one heck of a automobile which would be way ahead of competition. hope so Skoda auto reads this.
