Intel displays Wintel based Mini Computer
Looks like the success of the Apple Mac Mini has impressed Intel so much that they are thinking about replicating the same model with Wintel platform. At the Computex Taipei, a computer trade show taking place in Taiwan this week, the company showcased miniature desktops that use its Pentium M notebook processors, which looks a lot like the Mac Mini.
The company is expected to target this machine as the ultimate solution for cheap computing in developing countries along with the creation of a wider market for tinier, more stylish desktops. These PCs would be powered by the mobile solutions from the company in the form of Pentium M processors.
Corporates are already showing a preference for laptops over the bulky tower cabinets and the consumers are also looking out for solutions, which takes less space. And with these miniature computers, the company aims to target the market Apple decided to capture with their Mac Minis.
A spokesperson from the company had this to say about this prototype computer: “We expect to see OEMs and ODMs bring systems such as these to market later this year. We see this as a growing space and that there is interest from customers.” Using Pentium M based solutions also mean that these products will be quieter and consume less electricity providing additional benefits. And since normal monitors can be used with these, they would be a cheaper alternative to notebooks.
