Japanese companies outperform American Biggies in United States

The auto market in the United States continues to see the domination of the Japanese Auto Major. They have yet again shown the growing trends while the top three American Auto companies have shown drops in sales. The gap between the numbers of vehicles sold by these two groups is narrowing and it might not be long before Toyota becomes the standard beating both Ford and GM.

The latest reports in the media claim that Toyota spends the fewest hours per part or vehicle in its North American plants while Ford spends the most. This difference of 9 hours currently was a massive 16 hours in 1998. Nissan stood at 29.4 hours and Honda at 34.3 hours.

Critics claim that the success of Japanese Engineering is mostly due to the difference in times now and then. Manufacturing cars in America is now not as complicated as it was in the earlier times and the Americans are growing used to buy the ultra reliable Japanese models compared to American brands.

GM is however working hard on overcoming these hiccups. Their plants have been the most productive ones in the country and they have made great strides to improve it by 2.5 percent over 2003.
