Nokia goes basic with Nokia 1100 and Nokia 1600 models

Nokia was recently in news for launching their higher end models in their N Series mobiles and the recently unveiled prototype of their upcoming web-browsing device Nokia 770. However, the latest news in is that the company is now planning to target the developing countries and people with lower income groups with their latest range of mobile devices named Nokia 1100 and Nokia 1600.

Africa is said to be the primary market for these mobile handsets and the company would be aiming to get hold of the first time buyers of the mobile device. The company expects to start shipping the new handsets to the retail market in the third quarter of the current year itself.

The models are going to be cheap with Nokia 1100 expected to be priced at around USD 80 and Nokia 1600 at around USD 105. The information was released by the company in a press conference taking place in Kenya.

The models are fairly basic with normal mobile functionalities. 1110 would be a black and white model while 1600 would feature a colored screen. The statement from the company said: “The number of new mobile users in fast growing markets continues to rise dramatically and nowhere is the rate of growth more evident than in Africa.”

The current rage in the Indian market from Nokia in the basic segment happens to be Nokia 2600, which also costs less than USD 100 locally.

I bought a Nokia 1100 Tracfone about 6 weeks ago… and I absolutely love it! Reception is what I expected, and the battery life between charges is quite long. : ) I am looking for a 1100 that is unlocked that I can use when i go on vacation in mexico (I have other Nokias that I can use but i really like the 1100) I wholeheartedly recommend this phone : ) now if they can make a car as good…
