MSN Korea hacked for stealing user passwords
Microsoft has some serious issues in their Korean branch as the popular MSN Korea website got offline for a while after it was found that the site was hacked and some code was implemented to steal user passwords. This was noticed by some independent parties who contacted the company with their findings.
The site went down for around 10 hours yesterday and the company has confirmed these reports. The company acted quickly on the reported issues and has launched an investigation into this high-level security breach.
Adam Sohn, director of Global Sales and Marketing for MSN said in a statement: “Microsoft learned of a criminal attempt to compromise an MSN Korea property hosted by a third party. The Microsoft Security Response Center and MSN response teams immediately mobilized to investigate the incident. Within a few hours … Microsoft took the appropriate action to resolve the issue and stop any additional criminal activity.â€
What is not clear is that whether the hackers managed to steal any personal information of the MSN Korea users. The official words said: “Microsoft is not currently aware of any customer impact as a result of this criminal activity, but will continue to investigate the incident and take any necessary action to help protect customers. Microsoft is cooperating with law enforcement to investigate and take appropriate legal action against those responsible.”
