Reva to make fuel cell powered cars in collaboration with IOC
Reva is the first and only electric car in the Indian automobile market. They have now signed an agreement with the Oil Giant Indian Oil Corporation to develop fuel cell powered vehicles in collaboration. This news was announced in the media by Reva Electric Car Company Chairman, Sudarshan Maini.
He said that both the companies would be investing around Rs. 10-15 crores in the coming years to develop vehicles, which should be ready for the market by around 2010. These cars would be powered by fuel cell technology.
The statement said that two fuel cell hydrogen vehicles would be developed for a pilot project initiated by IOC towards the development of hydrogen economy in India. Reva was in talks with another company IFC earlier for expanding their plans to manufacture nature friendly cars worth around USD 15 millions.
IOC on their part has developed a road map according to which they would be developing the hydrogen gas infrastructure locally to showcase prototypes of vehicles by 2008. The roadmap also has plans about production, storage, distribution, and application of hydrogen to the retail market.
