Apple will indeed run on Intel Processors
Wall Street Journal shocked the world when it reported that Apple was considering switching over to the Intel processors quite sometime back. At that time, it was regarded as a rumor, which made little sense. However, last week when CNet somewhat confirmed the news by announcing that Steve Jobs would be announcing the plans to leave IBM for Intel on Monday, it started gaining some serious thought.
Monday came, and indeed… The announcement of Apple switching over to Intel processors from the IBM ones came out. It is now confirmed that Apple would indeed start using Intel processors in the coming years. And Steve Jobs has reported that the company was working on getting their Operating System to work on both the platforms for the last couple of years. The move also means that if Intel wants, they can produce processors, which would let Macintosh computers run Windows Operating System.
The announcement came at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco where Steve shocked the world with the news that Apple has released the versions of their Operating System capable of running on the Intel platform for the last 5 years! This should remove any doubts in the mind of analysts worried on how the application developer would cope up with the difference in platform when Apple moves onto Intel processors.
In fact, Steve Jobs showed his keynotes from a Macintosh computer, which was running a 3.6-GHz Pentium 4! The first Intel powered Macintosh computers are expected to arrive in the market next year with the complete transition aimed for the year after that. The company however confirmed that they would block OS X to run on non-Apple approved hardware.
