RIM Blackberry is the next target for Microsoft

Research in Motion just recently won the title of being the largest seller of PDAs in the world with their Blackberry device. Blackberry has become a darling of the corporate users who love its always-on email functionality. However, now the company faces competition from the biggest of all competitors in Microsoft.

Software giant Microsoft has just launched its push technology enabled Messaging and Security feature pack for Windows Mobile 5.0. The major enhancement is the real-time synchronization of the mails, which means that emails are updated in real time from the server. The update would let owners of millions of handheld running Microsoft software to get this latest functionality without upgrading to a new PDA. This itself is expected to hit the sales of competition, which normally expects the users to buy new devices to get access to latest features and facilities.

As of now, the users have to manually get the handheld device to synchronize with the server by periodically connecting to it and get the latest mails. RIM Blackberry is one of the only devices to offer real time updates on this front. GoodLink is another popular service offering similar functionality. Analysts are already predicting that this feature enhancement alone has the capability of getting Microsoft an edge over their rivals in Blackberry’s owners Research in Motion.
