XM Satellite Radio to launch products in collaboration with Audible
XM Satellite Radio has announced plans to launch hybrid audio devices next year in collaboration with Audible Inc. These devices would have the capabilities to play both satellite radio programs and digital audio content. The company explained that the planned devices would be able to download content through Internet shows from the Audible, which deals in spoken word content.
However, the details of the agreement between the companies were not disclosed. Audible is a digital content company, which offers digital audio programs recorded from publishers, broadcasters, entertainers and magazine and newspapers publishers.
The competition in the market for XM Satellite Radio, Sirius Satellite Radio has also hinted toward plans for launching satellite radio device that includes the ability to store downloaded songs, similar to MP3 players and iPods. However, when these products will be available in the retail market is not clear.
