Toshiba AC100 gets Android 2.2 update
Toshiba has released the Android 2.2 update for their smartbook model Toshiba AC100.
The company has loaded this update with their own version of the Android Market named Toshiba Market Place!
Of course, this version also brings support for Adobe Flash Player. Performance improvements are also noticeable.
However, the fact remains… smartbooks are no longer hot in the market. Tablets are.

One fact remains. Sometimes a physical keyboard is great to have. With the 2.2 upgrade the AC100 becomes quite usable.
I found a way to solve the standby issue as well.
Great slim little netbook that can be a bargain for a user who
wants to poke around with writing Android apps for MIDs.
Or anyone willing to perform the 2.2 upgrade.
So far what I have seen the standby issue was caused by the "fring" app firing timer interrupts now and then. Turn of the fring "auto launch at power on" feature and exit that app.
It will then not be a reason for the AC100 being thrown out of standby.
I found that out by hooking the AC100 up to the Android debugger (ddms) over USB. I could then monitor what gets logged when the AC100 went out of standby.
Another culprit seems to be the Mail app checking for new mail. I noticed when I got a new GMail message the AC100 went out of standby. By setting the mail fetch interval to Never
the AC100 then began to stay in standby very nicely.
