TiVo adds support for Microsoft devices
TiVO has reported that they have added their TiVoToGo portable video service support to pocket computers and mobile phones using Microsoft developed Operating System. With this support, they have gained an edge over their rivals.
With this update, the users of Windows Mobile-based Portable Media Centers can now make use of the services and products of the TiVO like playing digital music and videos. The support is also extended towards certain Windows Mobile-based Smartphones and PocketPCs handheld computers.
This would now enhance the powers of the user to move recorded TV programs to their digital devices. For now, TiVO has supported products from iRiver, Samsung Electronics, Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell. TiVo executive Matt Wisk spoke to the media about these new developments: “(TiVO is) trying to create a continual upgrading of the (end consumer’s) experience. Our business model is pretty sound, but our challenge is how to raise the bar of what that $12.95-a-month delivers to people.â€
Microsoft representative John Pollard had this to say: “In-Stat said that video-on-mobile-phones will become a $5.4 billion market by 2009. This is fantastic piece to build momentum.”
