Symantec Sues Hotbar.com
A lot of web users would be delighted to know this. Hotbar.com has been found to be a nuisance by many people and companies developing security software are generally cautious about labeling products from these established firms as damaging. Now, Symantec has decided to do something about this as they have filed a case against the company asking permission to label Hotbar products as ad ware.
Symantec develops tools for detecting and cleaning malicious programs known as ad-ware and spy-ware. And this suite is purely based on getting permission to label Hotbar.com products as harmful to the end user’s computer. Joy Cartun, senior director of legal affairs for Symantec said in a statement: “By asking the court for clarification on this issue in our favor, we hope to continue alerting our customers about the presence of these program files, protecting them against possible security risks.â€
He added: “Through this effort, we’re trying to ensure that our customers have more control over the programs that run on their computersâ€. Hotbar.com is yet to comment on these latest events. Considering even the lawmakers have become strict over computer security in the recent days, there is little hope for the company to prove that Symantec is doing this for publicity’s sake.
