Yahoo! collaborates with Sprint for Yahoo! Mail on Mobile

Yahoo! has taken another major initiative to make sure that the mobile users are not left out when it comes to accessing their services. They have now collaborated with Sprint to offer access to their mailing service Yahoo! Mail usable through Wi-Fi Internet access for only USD 3 a month.

With this collaboration, the Sprint customer having particular mobile handsets would be able to manage their Yahoo! mail accounts from their digital PDAs. Some of the models currently supported are Sprint PCS Multimedia MM A700 phones by Samsung, the MM 7400 and 5600 versions by Sanyo and Sprint PCS Vision Smart Device Treo 600 and 650 from PalmOne.

The premium version comes with the facility of local mail storage, which lets the customer store his mail on the device. This gives him access to the mails even if the network connection is not available to connect to the Yahoo! Mail servers. For the companies, this is just another value added offering to their customers to help them stay in touch with their business associates and friends.

A senior representative of the Yahoo! Company said in a statement about this latest news: “It fits into the broader strategy of expanding relationship on the desktop to the mobile phone”. The greatest advantage Yahoo! will obtain from this partnership will be an improvement of its image, because the free-downloadable interface will resemble closely that on the internet, which is already very familiar to many users.”
