Toshiba to start manufacturing HD DVD Writable
Looks like the companies have stopped in their efforts to settle for a common standard for the next generation DVD Discs. While Sony would be using their format Blu-Ray DVD standard as the media for the upcoming PlayStation 3 gaming console, Toshiba has now announced that they would be starting manufacturing of the writable HD DVD media next year.
These new generation writable DVD disks would come with capacities of 15 GB storage and the writers for these media are expected to be available in the retail market around the same time. Toshiba announced this today along with two more companies involved in the disc making process.
These HD DVD Writable discs would give consumers an alternative to the 20GB HD-DVD-RW discs expected to be available in the market around that time. The companies until now had only announced plans for the Rewritable media production. The latest news settles the case with once-only writable discs as well.
The pricing of these upcoming products is not revealed though it is quite obvious that the writable discs would be a lot cheaper than the re-writable ones as is the case with today’s generation CDs and DVDs.
