Solomon Trujillo is the new CEO of Telstra Corp

The former Chief Executive of US West and France’s Orange SA, Solomon Trujillo has been appointed as the new CEO of the Australia’s largest telephone company Telstra Corporation. He replaces Ziggy Switkowski and would be playing a key role in the privatization of the project. The project is worth around USD 23 billion and the Australian government is expected to sell its 51.8 per cent stake in the company in the second half of 2006.

In addition, Solomon would also be overseeing a complete overhaul in the functioning of the company. The Australian government was trying to privatise Telstra since quite sometime but was facing problems from the opposition parties. However, after winning both the houses in the elections last year, the path was cleared for a privatized telecom operator.

Solomon would be joining the company from July 1. The chairperson of the company Donald McGauchie said in a statement to the media about these latest developments: “The board is delighted with Trujillo’s appointment. We believe he will and truly meets the exacting criteria set down by the board for the task ahead. We unanimously agree that he is the best person to lead Telstra and believe this is an excellent outcome.”
