Nokia and Intel collaborates on WiMax Standards
The two tech giants and leaders in their respective fields Nokia and Intel are collaborating with each other to push WiMax as the standard for the next generation technologies to power wireless Internet. Intel has been a major force until now popularizing the WiMax protocol and they expect it to become base for providing broadband Internet services in the near future.
Nokia on the other hand has until now shown little interest in this technology. However, this latest collaboration seems to have changed their stand on WiMax. The reason behind this is said to be the interest the mobile service providers around the world has shown leading to development of devices by the company supporting this protocol.
Tero Ojanpera, Nokia’s chief strategy officer said in a statement: “There is interest from operators. It’s still too early to tell who and what, but we are making sure it is working. The key thing is to get the WiMax standard readyâ€. The companies expect WiMax to become an open standard by the end of the year for everyone to adapt it for their devices.
Nokia is now working on developing co-existing solutions for WiMax along with the third generation mobile phone networks and they are aiming for a situation where WiMax base stations would be complimenting cell phone base stations in radio masts. Overall, it is a win win situation for the end user.
