Microsoft delivers on Steve Ballmer’s promise to System Administrators
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced this week that the company has now made available several tools to make the job of system administrators easy to manage their networks. These new utilities would help in keeping the machines on the network up to date with the latest security releases enabling them to ensure that the network is safe from external attacks.
In fact, these utilities are result of a promise Ballmer made around 2 years ago to the IT departments of their clients. It would help the admins to manage downloading, testing, and redistributing frequently issued Windows patches through redesigned mechanisms. Both Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer admitted that the current generation utilities were not good enough to manage in today’s times with new security threats emerging on a daily basis.
Microsoft has now on offer four key pieces of new-and-improved patch-management platform. Microsoft Update is a single stop solution for anyone looking for software updates for a variety of Microsoft products. Windows Server Update Services would be complimenting Windows Server 2003 to allow IT administrators automate patch distribution. More is under plan in the form of an inventory tool for Systems Management Server 2003 that ties into both of those new products. Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0 would help consumers detect missing software updates and related concerns.
