Qatar Airways planning big order for Airbus and Boeing
Qatar Airways has announced plans to buy planes from both Airbus and Boeing in what could be deals worth USD 15 billion. The deal is yet to be finalized but it is expected to include up to 60 units of the planned Airbus A350 and at least 20 Boeing 777 aircraft. The deliveries of the planes from Airbus are expected between 2010 and 2015 while the Boeing planes would be required to be delivered in this decade itself.
The Airline representative said in a statement that it was a hard decision for them to prefer A350 to the Boeing 787, as both the planes are very good in their own respective ways. However, Airbus has a better commercial viability in the long run, which favored the decision in their side. The company is expected to give permission to proceed for the industrial launch of the A350 at the end of this year.
Qatar Airways is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world and they would be buying three variants of the 777. In the coming days, they would make Boeing planes their standard large wide body planes and 777-300ER would account for more than half of those planes. They currently have a fleet of 40 aircrafts.
