Sirius Satellite Radio to expand channel capacity
Sirius Satellite Radio has announced that they have developed a technology, which would enable them to boost their channel capacity by 25%. This would now give them the power to deliver video content to their subscribers. They call this technology hierarchical modulation and this would let them offer more services without affecting the quality of the broadcasts.
They expect to offer these new services by next year, as they would be now trying to incorporate this new advancement into their chipsets. They are already in collaboration with the software giant Microsoft on a video service pact and second half of 2006 should see them launching these new products.
Sirius is also in collaboration with Ford and DaimlerChrysler. It would give them immense potential to expand their horizon for new customers who can make use of this new technology to receive video transmission on Sirius’ channels. The company has assured their existing customers that the normal radio broadcasting services would not be affected by this new development.
