Napster to provide music downloading service to Erickson mobile users

The current leader in the online digital music stores Apple is planning to do this with Motorola. However, Erickson has somewhat taken the lead with their deal with granddaddy of the technology Napster. Erickson is the world’s biggest telecommunications equipment provider and Napster was the first popular service to offer music for download on the internet.

Now they are teaming together to offer their collaborative services to customers. Erickson along with Napster has developed technology, which would allow the users to download full songs to their mobile phone from the Napster music store. They would be charged for their downloads through their phone bills.

The companies have yet not decided on the pricing model for the end customer. However, they would be using Napster’s current price model for the time being. The company has on offer around 1 million songs on their network and charges $9.95 per month for a subscription or 99 cents for a song.

They expect to launch this service sometime next year when the market would have competition from other players including Apple/Motorola and Nokia/Microsoft.
