Yahoo! acquires Dialpad Communications
Yahoo! is going all out to make a mark in the field of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). We got a preview of their efforts in the beta of the recently launched Yahoo! Messenger, which debuts the Yahoo! calling facility. They are now aiming for Vonage as they have just acquired a VoIP service provider Dialpad Communications.
They would now be making use of the VoIP technology developed by their latest acquisition. They have not however announced the details of this deal. Dialpad is an old player in the VoIP market as they started way back in 1999. They offer VoIP calling facility to around 200 countries around the world at really cheap prices.
It brings a user base of 14 million consumers to the Search Engine giant in a market currently dominated by Vonage. Dialpad would be functioning as usual for the time being offering its prepaid and monthly services to the consumers. They have however stopped taking orders for their subscriptions for its calling card service. Current users would get to use their already bought packages until the time of validity.
