SpiceJet planning to buy four more Boeings

Indian aviation industry is going ballistic with the entry of the younger airlines offering cheap air travel. It started with the entry of Deccan Airlines and now Kingfisher Airlines and SpiceJet are making their mark amongst the consumers looking for cheaper traveling alternatives to trains.

SpiceJet has recently started their venture with three Boeing 737-800 aircraft and are looking towards acquiring another batch of three-four aircraft on lease for a swift ramp-up of network this calendar. They are planning to buy 10 new generation B737s and another 10 if the demand sustains at the current pace.

The deliveries of these new planes begin early next year and would continue until 2007. The deal is worth more than a billion dollars. The company has had a smashing start in the domestic market with more than 1.5 lakhs tickets already sold to the consumers.

They have also now increased their daily flights from 12 to 20. They are covering areas like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Goa, Pune, and Bangalore currently and would expand as the airplanes become available.
