Skoda has big plans for India

Volkswagen’s Skoda has had an amazing run in the Indian market. They came as an unknown company with low marketing budget (maybe that was planned) but they delivered some excellent cars in the Indian market. Octavia has been a smashing success with people preferring to buy it instead of the cheaper cars in the segment like Mitsubishi Lancer.

The car gives amazing fuel efficiency, superb comfort, and best of all it is a performer. It looks awesome as well. We Indians have been waiting for the smaller cousin Fabia. The good news is that the company is taking India quite seriously and is planning to launch four new models in the near future.

Imran Hassen, Managing Director of Skoda Auto India, said in a statement to the press: “We are targeting to be present in nearly all segments of the Indian car market in three years. This would include an offering in the premium compact car segment.” The company is currently studying the possibilities for the Indian market from their stables. Yeti Roomster Concept vehicle has been rumored to be one of the possibilities.

Skoda currently has 10 models (and variants) to offer to Indian customer in the market right now including the top end Skoda L&K, Skoda Superb and the SkodaRS. This year would see them launch models like variants on the D5 platform as well as the Octavia Combi. 2006 would see an updated version of Octavia and the much-awaited Skoda Fabia.

The company is also planning to expand their capacities of manufacturing cars at their Aurangabad facility. With parent company Volkswagen planning their own manufacturing plant in India, future seems bright for this auto giant in the Indian market.
