InterGlobe Enterprises Limited to launch IndiGo airlines
Indian Aviation industry got another new entrant in the form of IndiGo airlines. The travel group InterGlobe Enterprises Limited is planning to venture in the booming budget airline market with this airline and have just placed an impressive order worth $6 billion (on market prices of the aircrafts) with Airbus.
This deal means that the Indian airline companies alone have placed order worth USD 13 Billion during the currently running Paris Air Show. This order comes after Kingfisher Airlines and SpiceJet order the planes for their fleet of airlines. IndiGo has placed orders for 100 jets in the A320 family.
Airbus Chief Commercial Officer John Leahy said in a statement to the press about these latest deals: “We see dramatic growth in the Indian market. It was artificially protected in the past but there are many new carriers now. India is starting a rapid economic expansion and we think air travel will be part of that.â€
These planes would be delivered to this new entrant in the Indian Airline market during the latter half of next year and would add to the already starting to clutter budget airline segment.
