Yahoo! offers Yahoo! Search Subscriptions

Search Engines are now going beyond the routine search model by offering results from the deep web. Yahoo! has announced their new service called ‘Yahoo! Search Subscriptions’ and this would enable them to index subscriber only web content from the publishers around the world on the Internet.

Some of the sites initially using this facility are ConsumerReports.org, The Wall Street Journal Online, TheStreet.com, and others. Content publishers can contact the company for getting their locked content indexed for their subscribers using the technology from the Yahoo!

However, only the visitors who are subscribed to the particular website would be able to view the content. Eckart Walther, Yahoo Search vice president of product management said in a statement about this new launch: “We are in the very early stages of providing our users with access to the deep Web through Yahoo search subscriptions and over the coming months we plan to expand this program to further accommodate our users’ wide range of interests.”

This service now puts Yahoo! as a distributor and aggregator of paid-for content from the locked away sections of paid services. This benefits the publishers as their internal search engines are not as powerful as the ones powered by the search engine giant. In the end, it all helps the visitor to get better access to information.
