Russia sending more cargo for the International Space Station
NASA is working hard to get the Space Shuttle back to space. With the next launch scheduled for the middle of next month, it is Russia, which is chipping in again to send supplies for the International Space Station. They just sent a cargo spaceship from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan with more than two tons of supplies for the for the ISS.
Russian space agency’s Mission Control informed the media that the Progress M-53 lifted off from the launch pad at 3:10 a.m. Moscow time. It is carrying food, water and packages from families for Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalyov and US astronaut John Phillips currently residing on the ISS.
It is also carrying along repair material for the Elektron device, which generates the essential oxygen gas on the International Space Station, which broke down some weeks ago. This mission is the latest in the series of Russian effort to keep the progress going on, on the Space Shuttle as USA is struggling to get the Space Shuttle back to the space after the Columbia Space Shuttle incident.
If all goes well, the spacecraft will dock with the ISS on Sunday.
