Intel launches a unified Wi-Fi technology supporting solution

Intel is betting big time on the wireless technology. Their Centrino package for mobile computers is a massive success and they are working hard on collaborating with companies to popularize the WiMax standard for the next generation wireless technology solution. Their latest release in the market brings support for all current and projected Wi-Fi standards in a single chip technology.

Friday saw Intel releasing a prototype of a technology, which would be supporting Wi-Fi standards ranging from the current 802.11a to standards requirements expected for 802.11n. This would help Intel reaching their goal of offering one chip that can handle multiple radios in a single device.

Krishnamurthy Soumyanath, Intel communications circuits research lab director said in a statement about this launch: “The variable bandwidth of this solution extends capabilities beyond today’s 20MHz to 100MHz and is expected to support data rates higher than 100 megabits per second that should allow people to enjoy multiple high-quality video streams concurrently”.

The company has based this technology around the CMOS standards and released the details at the Symposium on VLSI Technology in Japan. This would help them keep the costing of the project low and mass manufacture the products.

There’s a new flash demo on wireless hackers — you actually see what the hacker sees. Its eye-opening and a little scary. Take a look at http://www.lucidlink.com
