Nissan to build Hybrid Cars in USA

Hybrids are hot in the American market. Toyota and Honda both know it very well and they make use of the fact that the American Auto Giants General Motors and Ford both lack the technology to mass manufacture environment friendly cars. Now, another Japanese auto giant Nissan is looking forward to tap the market and manufacture Hybrid cars in the United States.

Nissan Motor announced on Friday that they have selected their auto plant in Tennessee as the base where they would be manufacturing its first more fuel-efficient hybrid vehicle in the United States. This car would be based on the Nissan’s midsize Altima and they are investing $10 million for the project.

The company promises that 2007 Altima Hybrid will achieve “the acceleration performance of V6 engines with fuel efficiency higher than compact cars”. The details are however not out yet on the specification of the model being planned by the company.

The company employs around 7,000 people at the factory. This also happens to be the company’s first plant outside the Japanese market. This car should be competing in the hybrid car segment against the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius.
