General Motors discount scheme showing impressive results
Finally some good news for the American Auto Giant General Motors. After seeing months of falling market share, the company finally seems to be bouncing back into the limelight. And the reason behind improving sales is said to be the recently announced employee discount to all U.S. buyers. This scheme alone seems to have increased the volume of car buyers by 30% in markets with historically low GM sales.
GM noticed a downfall of sales of about 6.7% during the first five months of the current year. However, the discount sales, which began from the first of this month, seem to be doing wonders for the company. This program expires in the first week of next month and could bring about a surprising change in the sales figure for the month of June.
GM representative Deborah Silverman said in a statement to the media: “What we’re hearing back from dealers is we’re getting a nice bump in traffic. It’s a little early to say what that might mean in sales.” However, a senior market analyst Brett Hoselton was more optimistic as he said in a statement: “GM is going to have a huge sales month in June because of the employee discount program. We surveyed a number of dealers, and so far some are seeing 15 percent increases and some a doubling versus the previous month.”
Interestingly, after the GM announced this discount scheme, Ford had also introduced something similar through which an employee or a retiree can earn up to USD 1000 for bringing in customers to their showrooms.

I think the American consumer is pathetic. I am a GM employee, I have been paying a lot of attention lately to all the cars out there on the road and I can hardly tell where the foreign cars, imported or built here by foreign companies are any better then the american made cars, if you can’t find something you like thats built by an American company, GM, Ford or Chrysler then I believe you have a snob problem.
Americans had better figure it out that all of our well fair is based upon the american worker being able to make a decent living. This doesn’t just stop at vehicles, we need to get a grip on all the products that we spend our hard earned money on and big business needs to take the first step, GM included and stop supporting countries that use slave labor and other practices that should be illegal.

Ms. Koechig needs to look at her bosses and those in charge of product development for GM as the source of the consumer rejection of GM. GM makes UGLY and valueless cars. True, the SUV’s are good vehicles, but the GM passenger cars are just pathetic. Look at the redisgned Toyota Avalon. A beautiful car at any price, but it provides value and refinement not found in anything that GM offers (not everyone needs or can afford a Corvette) and that is GM’s problem to sort out. NOT the consumer. GM, make something people want to spend their hard earned money on.

If GM’s quality and design are so bad then why are they flocking in to buy at the employee discount? If I truely don’t like something no matter how discounted it is I’m not going to buy it.

I bought a 2002 Chevrolet Venture van. I paid $28000.00 for it. Today my van is worth a little of $6000.00 for trading purposes. You do the math. Bad investment. I have never owned a foreign car. I am thinging about it now

Why did you pay that much for a 2002 Ventura? I didn’t pay much more then that for my 2002 Chevy Express that was fully loaded. But you also didn’t mention the miles or the condition, plus the dealerships never give you what it’s worth on trade in they need to make there money on reselling it.

And how many GM auto’s are made in mexico now? Quite a few last time I checked. Oh yeah, the employee discount is a joke…i mean they laid off 25,000 workers in June remember. My generation is different than the last: A time where GM made great American classics. Well, In my generation they make lifeless, rebadged crap.

General Motors has always laid junk on the public until the competition from japanese opened the public’s eyes. Gm is like a cheating husband. The husband has his act together now, but the wife no longer trusts him because of his shady past.
GM think about all the lemons your company has produced. You are nothing but crooks. I have a 2005 altima and am completely satisfied.
The big 3 have nothing that comes close to my altima.

chrysler (the worse of the lot), General Motors, and Ford. A history of selling the public junkers for years. And had the nerve to tell the public “buy american”. I do not even consider american cars when I go car-shopping. They are lemons trying to catch up to the times
