Russian craft carrying supplies docks with ISS

NASA is busy preparing for the very important Space Shuttle launch coming next month. Russia on their part is managing the deliveries of supplies to the International Space Station. Their latest craft left for the ISS 2 days back and has finally docked with the space station. The craft was also carrying the much needed oxygen supplies and the repair material for the Elektron oxygen generator.

Their was some moments of tension in store for the authorities as the docking process had some complications. The automated guidance system aboard the unmanned cargo craft failed but they used the backup systems to guide the craft to dock with the ISS. The two residents of the ISS Sergei Krikalev and John Phillips would be beginning to undock the cargo from the Russian spacecraft.

These supplies are very crucial to the next month’s Space Shuttle mission, as it might have to take care of the crew of the Space Shuttle as well in case some complications occur during the launch leading to their emergency stay on the International Space Station itself. Krikalev would be working on fixing the Elektron device later this week.
