Burger King now targets the lucrative Chinese Market
Burger King is now hoping for lucrative returns from the big Chinese market as they open their first restaurant in the Shanghai city. Their biggest competitor in this market would be McDonalds and looking at the market, it can turn into an interesting battle between the American giants. The joint is company owned and it is located at crucial commercial hub just opposite a Buddhist temple.
They have got the popular food products like Whopper sandwich on the menu and would have additional items customized to Chinese taste buds. The company specifically mentioned a hamburger seasoned with the spicy mala sauce of southwestern China. Greg Brenneman, chairperson and CEO of Burger King Corp said in a statement: “We are enthusiastic about our new restaurant in Shanghai.â€
The Chinese market already has established American players including the Kentucky Fried Chicken and they would have to work hard to get people away from them. Especially, considering that McDonalds is looking forward to extending their network of chains in the market. They recently unveiled their plans to open a further 100 restaurants.
Other challengers to Burger King are Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.
