Cisco acquires NetSift for USD 30 million

NetSift is a privately held San Diego based startup. It was founded in June 2004 with backing from Enterprise Partners Venture Capital. And the latest news in is that the company has been acquired by the tech giant Cisco for USD 30 million in cash and options. Cisco through this deal gets access to the NetSift’s technology to protect enterprise customers from large-scale worm and virus attacks.

Market analysts predict that the software solutions from NetSift would in the near future make an appearance in the network giant’s switching platforms and other gear. Cisco also gained intellectual property focused on high-speed packet processing. 15 new employees will join Cisco’s Internet Systems Business Unit under vice president and general manager Tom Edsall.

Security for corporations and government agencies is one of the crucial areas Cisco has been looking to strengthen its offerings and the acquisition of this year old company gives them exactly that. The deal should be completed by July 30 but it would still require approval from the regulatory authorities.

Cisco has been quite active in the last couple of months with acquisition of companies like: Protego Networks, TopSpin, and Sipura Technology.
