Greg Maffei is the new CFO of Oracle

Database giant Oracle has named former Microsoft executive Greg Maffei as their new Chief Financial Officer. Greg is also appointed as one of the three co-President of the company. Interestingly, Greg has also served Microsoft as a CFO for a couple of years, which happens to be one of the biggest competitors for Oracle in the Database market.

Greg was currently serving as the chairperson and chief executive of 360networks, which provided broadband communications services to small businesses. Now, he joins the Oracle Corp as a co-president and later assumes the role of the CFO sometime next month. He would be overlooking operations in areas like human resources, manufacturing and distribution, global real estate, and the legal department.

Maffei spoke to a media group: “It’s a great time to join the company with everything that is going on, with the acquisition of PeopleSoft being completed for the most part, and there are a lot of opportunities to help Oracle grow. I’m looking forward to being an important part of that process.”

He added: “I’ve seen what the challenges are in a successful software company moving into new areas, as Oracle is, and encountered the various financial concerns involved with pursuing that type of strategy. In that sense I think my experience at Microsoft can be an asset in helping Oracle address its goals.”
