Hyatt Customers would get access to XM radio in US
Hyatt Hotels Corporation became the first chain of hotels to introduce satellite radio services for their customers. They announced yesterday a multi-year agreement with XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. to provide free XM service in all of its rooms in the United States. The company however did not release the financial details behind the deal.
XM Satellite Radio is competing on a larger scale with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. to increase their user base by offering exclusive packages through sports games to car systems to Jimmy Buffet tunes. Hyatt has more than 50,000 rooms on offer in the United States alone and the service would be offered to the customers for free.
XM hopes that the customers at Hyatt would like the service so much that it would convert them into a long-term XM user when they return to their homes. Guests will be able to tune into XM’s 150-plus digital radio channels of commercial-free music as well as sports, news, talk, and entertainment shows.
Hyatt would be putting up Custom-designed XM tabletop radios in all their rooms and the customers would be provided with a XM channel guide and promotional information. Both the companies are also considering offering special XM Hardware to special promotion guests and Hyatt’s Gold Passport members.
