Comcast collaborates with Starz Entertainment Group on VOD

Comcast Corporation is collaborating with Starz Entertainment Group to expand the number of movies available on demand to the subscribers of the digital cable services from their company. It now expects to make available over 1,500 movies a year from the Starz library because of this deal.

Starz in exchange would be expanding their services through two new premium movie channels on the Comcast’s Cable services. The companies did not disclose the details of the pacts but made it clear that the pact would be a tipping point for the Comcast in their strategy to continue dominating the digital cable market.

Comcast would now mostly act as a marketing face for the Starz group, which would be getting revenues for providing the content. The service VOD (Video on Demand) let consumer watch the programs as per their desire and is a relatively new field for the cable operators to provide. Movies are one of the preferred content for this service though the channels provide much more content on VOD.

Comcast digital currently has on offer close to 400 movies on average a month to choose from. They provide some of these movies at no extra charge. This number would now increase to 500 because of this deal.

I am a user of the encore channels but more especially the western channel. (I am A WESTERN MOVIE/SHOW BUFF,)I would like to know why so few movies or hourly shows are selected each month? It is a bore to watch the same ole movie over and over each month. And in some cases the hourly shows that are on in the evening are aired again at 5, 6 and 7 am the next morning. That also is a bore. I know that your attempt is to arrange the showing of each show so that everyone is pleased with the times it is shown, workers of the day, evening and night shifts. I applaud you for that however I, as a retired/disable person watch TV for a hobby since I am not able to do much else would love to see a broader selection of western movies each month. I enjoy watching western movies over and over again but not three or four times in the same week or month. Would you please try to arrange the movies/hourly shows you air on the western channel so there is a much wider variety each month?
    Sincerely,
    Kyle Hall

I agree with Kyle Hall. I watch TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and I do not appreciate it when the the same movie comes on over and over again, day after day at the same time. Actually, I very rarely watch TV at all, but if I do watch TV it is TCM because i love the old movies and the actors. So it is thoroughly irritating to see the same movie come on 3 or more days in row when possibly those are the only days within 3 months time that i have a chance to watch some good classic movies. Thank you. Michaiah Copp
