Apple announces 1 million subscriptions to Podcasts

You can gauge the sheer popularity of the Apple iPod and Apple iTunes products by the massive figures they manage to churn out with every new feature. Just a couple of days back, Apple added support for Podcasting to their iPods and iTunes and the company has already announced more than 1 million subscriptions to this particular service.

This target was achieved within a period of 2 days. The company already reportedly sells more than a million songs on a daily basis on their iTunes Music Store. And with the launch of Apple iTunes 4.9, people using it have subscribed to more than a million Podcasts from the new iTunes Podcast Directory. The latest update to the iTunes application has tools for discovering, subscribing, managing, and listening to the audio files, which are provided, for free from general users and even corporations for sharing.

Apple has made this latest version available on their website and the software and the update to iPod is freely downloadable. Some of the best content available on Podcast directory for free download include content from ABC News, BBC, Disney, ESPN, Newsweek and NPR member stations.

This is good news for the websites of the podcasters as well as they have reported increase in traffic ever since the service from the Apple started showcasing their content. Apple is obviously expecting more customers to make use of this service in the future and is promoting the facility through their various channels.

iTunes has dramatically increased our listener base – it’s grown to be about six times larger than it was three days ago.
