Sprint to test WiMax equipment from Motorola
Cell phone operator Sprint has decided to move one-step ahead of the competition by announcing plans to start testing WiMax handsets and other WiMax equipment from Motorola. They would now be testing in their labs mobile version of wireless technological gadgets offering wireless broadband access over distances ranging to many miles.
Sprint says that if the local testing in labs were successful, they would next expand their test area to a major urban area. This deal would be enhancing the Intel’s effort to popularize WiMax standard amongst the tech companies so that the requisite equipment and technology is developed soon for mass development.
WiMax is getting a hot market to be in as the most top-tier U.S. phone operators are experimenting with this technology to offer next generation wireless broadband Internet connectivity in the future. However, the interest in this technology is high; the mass scale implementation can still take sometime due to some problems.
The WiMax standard, which would ensure that equipment made by different manufacturers is compatible, still awaits ratification by the appropriate standards body. Therefore, it is a risk for tech companies today to develop their own standards and launch products in the market. However, future seems to be bright for WiMax and its potential uses in the broadband market.
